  3. “There will be rest, and sure stars shining too.”

Tonight was the long awaited for Christmas in Hudson Hall choir concert at my school. I wasn’t particularly looking forward to this concert because this week has been focused solely on these two concerts. I enjoy the music making but when rehearsals get this lengthy and intense it hurts. But it paid off.

I am proud to be a member of Chamber Choir. The musicians that I sing with are phenomenal people. I am thankful for nights like this that I applied and visited here. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be attending an institution with such a wonderful group of people.

After this weekend filled with music (classical and a capella concerts) and dominating finals week, I will be home and “There Will Be Rest”… except for my iPod playing all of tonight’s pieces. What an awesome school I go to!

  4. But here is the secret… there is no secret. We haven’t solved anything and that’s why we need you. ~Jonah Lehrer

As finals week approaches, I think about my semester and revisit the video that highlights our welcome speeches. It has been a rough road this semester with ups and downs. I have struggled with some burn out but I feel like that has subsided. From this struggle though I have learned about myself: 1. I need to say “No” to things 2. I rather work than do schoolwork 3. I would play music all day if my instrument were not voice 4. Much of my musicality has improved subconsciously. It just clicked one day.

I can’t wait to be home.

  5. Now is the winter of our discontent. -William Shakespeare

This Fall semester has been a bit different. There wasn’t really a time when the rain came in. It somehow skipped from Summer to Winter. I’m fine with it but living in the PNW really reminds me of how discontent one can be during winter. The days are shorter, the clouds linger longer, you stay indoors all day working or studying. Even during the summer months, PNW people (for the most part) stay indoors or work. I wish we could have summer all year long. Because then, I’d have a will to do work when it got super hot.

    HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

  7. The best way to prepare for life is to begin to live. – Elbert Hubbard

Some days are better than others in college. Some days you get to hang out and relax after a couple hours of class. Other days, though, you end up sleep deprived and stressed beyond belief.

How is college preparing us to live?

When Spartans were trained as children, they weren’t put in a “hand-holding” program such as college is to our society. They were shown the harshness of life and war from a young age. Yet, were they better prepared for war? Probably.

But how about Americans? Although the norm is to attend college to gain a higher education or an understanding of the world around us, does it adequately prepare us for “real-life?” Personally, I think we should work and gain the necessary skills from said experience. College is this limbo stage between the real world and our adolescence. Sometimes I feel odd at my institution; not that I chose the wrong one or that I don’t fit in. Bu the feeling that I already have much to offer and I’m ready to begin living. So why do I still need to prepare?
